This spalting maple counter top was recently installed in Chadds Ford, PA. This live edge piece took approximately six hours to create and install. It is finished with urethane. It is another nice example of how rustic design fits into a modern setting.
Spalted maple is light in color and is a very strong hardwood. “Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by fungi. Although primarily found in dead trees, spalting can also occur in living trees under stress or even in thriving trees.” You can read more about it on Wikipedia. Spalting creates a unique collaboration and design of dark patterns on the white wood.
